Preschool Learning During the Holidays

November 9, 2022

As a parent during the holiday season, you are likely spending a lot of your time planning holiday meals, trips, gifts, and other activities to create a joyous occasion for your family. And, while the holidays mean time off of work for parents and school for children, it’s important to work in some preschool learning opportunities into your holiday activities. In today’s blog post from Lil’ Rascals Academy, we’re going to discuss four ways you can incorporate preschool learning into the holidays. Read on to learn more.

Turn Time in the Kitchen into a Learning Opportunity

Baking cookies, making candy, and cooking meals for family and friends is a wonderful part of the holiday season, and it can also be a learning opportunity for your preschooler. Understanding recipes, measuring ingredients, and counting can all be incorporated into your baking and cooking endeavor, allowing your preschooler to keep their mind active during the holiday break.

Enjoy Holiday Story Time

Another way you can continue preschool learning during the holidays is by choosing holiday-themed books for story time. You can read books you remember from your childhood or make a trip to the bookstore and pick out something new and exciting. Either way, making story time more festive is a great way to fit some preschool learning into your holiday celebration.

Create Learning Opportunities From Everyday Tasks

The holidays can be a busy time, especially for parents. While you’re grocery shopping, gift shopping, and running errands, take time to include your preschooler and turn these everyday tasks into learning opportunities. From teaching them about budgeting and money to asking them open-ended questions about products they see in the store, there are plenty of ways to incorporate preschool learning into your holiday tasks.

Ask for Advice From Your Preschool

If you’re unsure of how to help your preschooler continue learning through the holiday season, their preschool teacher is sure to have some ideas. Ask your child’s teacher for advice on how to fit preschool learning that will correlate to what they’re teaching in class into your holiday activities.
