Getting A Head Start

Getting A Head Start

We all know how important early childhood education is. That’s why Florida enacted the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program in 2002 so that every family, regardless of income, can have access to free pre-K for their children. At Lil’ Rascals Academy, we are thrilled to offer VPK programs for both summer and during the school year where your child can get a head start on learning. In VPK, they will learn vital skills that will help build the foundation for elementary school and beyond.

Pembroke Pines

Some children are rearing to go to school. Others, even at a young age, are nervous and uneasy about going to school. Whether it’s being shy, doubtful of his or her reading skills, or simply being nervous of a new place, starting kindergarten can be quite an adjustment for young children. That’s where the V.P.K. program in Pembroke Pines, FL, comes in. If your four or five-year-old isn’t looking forward to kindergarten, this program allows new students to enhance pre-reading, pre-math, language, and social skills in a safe environment. By having an opportunity to practice these skills and having a head start in certain areas, it sets up a foundation that will help support your child in the future years of education.

This program also guides your child in other aspects of learning that aren’t necessarily covered in books. The qualified teachers in the V.P.K program want your child to succeed in having strong character traits, including respect, honesty, responsibility, self-control, tolerance, kindness, and citizenship. Having these personal skills will make the transition into kindergarten, first grade, and beyond a much smoother process.

The Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program – V.P.K is a free pre-kindergarten program for four and five-year-olds who reside in Florida. Children must be four years old on or before September 1. Parents can enroll children in this free program or wait until the following year when their child is five.

There are two V.P.K. programs available:

  • The school-year program includes 540 hours of instructional time and begins in August.
  • The summer program consists of 300 instructional hours and begins in June.

Through high literacy standards, age-appropriate curriculum, and manageable classroom sizes, your child will have all of the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to be strong readers and excited learners. Learning doesn’t come naturally for all children and the V.P.K. program in Pembroke Pines gives new students an opportunity to get the attention they need to be successful students.
