Activities to Do at Home With Your Kids During COVID

March 10, 2021

It’s been about a year since our normal routines and everyday lives were upended by the COVID-19 pandemic. And, while we may be able to finally see an end in sight for the first time, it’s still imperative that we continue to practice social distancing guidelines for a little bit longer to keep our families safe.

In today’s blog post, we have put together a list of some activities that are both fun and educational and can be done at home with your preschooler. Continue reading to learn more, and if you are searching for a quality, educational preschool in Pembroke Pines, Davie, Cooper City, or Weston, contact the team at Lil’ Rascals Academy to learn more.

Read Together

While it may seem like this activity is one that doesn’t really need mentioning, there are just so many benefits to reading with your children, no matter their age, that we couldn’t leave it off the list. Just to name a few, reading with your preschooler can help your child build their vocabulary, be more likely to succeed academically, and can instill a lifelong love for learning.

Learn How to Cook

Learning how to cook can help children follow directions, hone their motor skills, and learn how to work with others. It will also encourage them to try new foods. If you’re already an expert, you can teach your preschooler how to cook dinner for the whole family, or if cooking skills leave something to be desired, you can take on the adventure of learning how to cook together.

Arts and Crafts

Arts and crafts always have a place in your child’s life whether during the pandemic or not. They help build creative thinking skills, problem solving skills, and motor skills. You can find arts and crafts project ideas for every holiday and any season just by doing a quick internet search.

Take Up a Sport

During the pandemic, a lot of us have found ourselves cooped up in our houses, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Fresh air is essential for everyone, and as long as you remain with others who live in your household, you’ll still be minimizing your exposure to COVID. Choose a sport that both you and your child will enjoy. Anything from baseball or soccer to yoga or even dance can be a fun form of exercise.

STEM Activities

Just because your preschooler is spending more time at home, doesn’t mean that time shouldn’t be filled with fun, educational activities. There are plenty of STEM activities designed for preschool-aged children, and some require only materials that you probably already have at home. STEAM Café has plenty of at-home STEM activities to choose from, but don’t hesitate to do your own internet search to find more.
