Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and while it is a wonderful time to celebrate with your significant other, children love to celebrate this holiday too! They get to bring in valentines to their classmates, make fun crafts, and even create something special for the people they truly love — their parents.

In today’s blog post, we are going to teach you how to make a Valentine’s Day heart wreath out of a paper plate and a few other simple items. This is a fantastic activity to do with your little one to get ready for Valentine’s Day. Please be sure that your child has constant adult supervision since this craft will involve scissors.

If you have a child that is ready for daycare, preschool, or a pre-k program choose Lil’ Rascals Academy. We have locations in Davie, Cooper City, Pembroke Pines, and Weston. Valentine’s Day Paper Plate Heart Wreath

What you’ll need:

  • A Paper Plate
  • Construction Paper (in reds, pinks, purples, or any other color you would like in your wreath)
  • Glue Stick
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • A piece of yarn or string (used to hang the wreath)

Instructions:

Step 1:

Start by cutting a circle out of the center of the paper plate so that you are left with a circle with a hole in the middle, resembling a donut. This will be the base of your wreath.

Step 2:

Make your hearts! You’ll want to make a bunch of hearts in all different sizes and colors to make your wreath unique and colorful. You’ll teach your little one the same trick that you probably learned in preschool or daycare. You’ll fold your construction paper in half, draw half a heart on the seam, cut it out, and unfold it for a perfectly symmetrical construction paper heart. Go ahead, have some fun, and make a lot of different sized, colorful hearts to decorate your wreath.

Step 3:

Use the glue stick to adhere the hearts to the paper plate. Go all the way around the plate. You can layer them however you’d like and arrange different colors in patterns or just go for a more abstract look. Cover the entire plate so that no white is showing. No matter how you arrange the hearts, it will look amazing.

Step 4:

Attach a piece of yarn to the back of your wreath and find a great place to hang it around the house or give it as a gift to your favorite valentine!
