During the current situation, we are all finding ourselves spending a lot more time at home. It’s the best way to keep ourselves and our family safe, but it can become a bit overwhelming to have the whole family home all the time and to keep them entertained.

In this blog post, we are going to discuss a few activities you can do at home with your preschooler that will not only keep them engaged, but will also help them learn and grow. Continue reading to learn more and when you are ready to enroll your child in daycare, preschool, pre-K, or an after school program, contact Lil’ Rascals Academy. We have locations in Pembroke Pines, Davie, Cooper City, and Weston. Learn more today.

Cook Together

Cooking with your children has more than one advantage — your child will not only learn important skills like following recipes and measuring ingredients but will also be more likely to try new healthy foods.

Allow your child to help you pick out a recipe and even make the grocery list. They can help measure, stir, and any other part of the cooking that you are comfortable with. Children will be excited to taste what they’ve created even if it contains lots of veggies and other new healthy ingredients.

Plant a Garden

Growing a garden with your preschooler can also have several advantages. Children can see where food comes from and how nurturing something can help it grow. It will also encourage them to eat more fruits, veggies, and herbs.

Include your child in choosing what they would like to grow and teach them how to not only plant the seeds but how to care for them every day. This will also teach them about consistency and attention to detail. When the fruits, veggies, and herbs are ready, you can choose a dish and cook them for the whole family to try.

Have a Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts encourage your child to think creatively, read more and can add new words to their vocabulary. Start by giving your child one clue that will lead them to the next clue, and then the next, and so on, until they get to the end and find a prize. You can create your own scavenger hunt around the house or in your yard, or find one online. You can also choose something fun and educational for the prize at the end. If your child is enjoying growing a garden, you could include a new seed packet and pot. A new book to read with your preschooler also makes a great prize!
